It is marvelous that we are the only species that creates gratuitous forms.

Thinking caps
The Thinking Caps were inspired by the story of Goody Two Shoes, a girl who wore a hat printed with phrases that encouraged thinking before saying something unkind or unfair to another person. The research into the origins of the story, and the variations that have been passed along over the years, led me to looking into the history and construction of hats. There are 19 hats in the series, all made of paper of various sorts, including old book pages, collected ephemera, and letterpress and relief prints by me and others.
